Heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides have blocked the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand, disrupting travel and stranding pilgrims and locals. The highway is blocked at multiple locations, including Pagalnala, Nandprayag, Bhanerpani, Kameda, and Chatwa Pipal. The continuous downpour has also caused significant damage in other areas of the state, with reports of houses collapsing and people being buried under rubble.

The Badrinath National Highway is a crucial route for pilgrims visiting Badrinath and Hemkund. The blockage has left many travelers stranded, and authorities are working to clear the debris and restore traffic flow. However, the ongoing rainfall and the extent of the damage are making the restoration work challenging.

In addition to the Badrinath National Highway, other roads in Uttarakhand have also been affected by landslides. The Jyotirmath-Malari road was blocked after a bridge on the Tamak Nala was washed away. The Gangotri Highway is also blocked near Dharasu Band, Netala. The Kund-Chamoli National Highway connecting Kedarnath to Chamoli is also blocked due to a landslide near Bairagana. The Kedarnath Highway has been blocked at four different places between Banswara and Kund to Chopta.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts of Uttarakhand, including Bageshwar, Chamoli, Dehradun, and Rudraprayag. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the State Disaster Management Secretary and the district magistrates to carry out relief and rescue operations promptly. He also assured that the government stands with the people affected by the disasters.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other rescue teams are facing difficulties in reaching the affected areas due to the damaged roads. Despite these challenges, authorities are working to provide assistance to those stranded and to clear the roads as quickly as possible.

The recent spell of heavy rainfall has caused widespread damage and disruption in Uttarakhand. In addition to the blocked highways, there have been reports of houses being damaged and people going missing due to landslides. The state government is taking steps to address the situation and provide relief to those affected. Pilgrims and locals are advised to check road conditions before traveling and to follow updates from the authorities.
