Gurugram braced for potential disruptions on Tuesday following forecasts of heavy rainfall in the region. Anticipating significant challenges, authorities have issued advisories recommending that corporate offices and private institutions allow their employees to work from home. Simultaneously, many schools in Gurugram have announced that they will conduct online classes to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

The decision to promote remote work and online learning comes in response to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings of moderate to heavy rainfall across Gurugram. The advisories aim to mitigate potential traffic congestion and ensure the safety of commuters, considering the possibility of waterlogging in several areas.

Gurugram has previously experienced the crippling effects of intense rainfall. In July 2025, the city witnessed severe waterlogging and traffic jams due to heavy downpours, prompting similar advisories for work from home. On that occasion, the Gurugram District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) reported a substantial 133 mm of rainfall within a 12-hour period, including an "extremely intense spell" of 103mm in just 90 minutes. The administration issued an Orange Alert at that time.

The current weather forecast predicts "generally cloudy sky with a few spells of rains or thundershowers" for the next couple of days. Residents are urged to stay indoors during intense spells of rain, avoid waterlogged routes, and remain alert for further updates from authorities.

The decision to shift to online classes and work from home demonstrates a proactive approach by the Gurugram administration and educational institutions to minimize disruption and prioritize safety during adverse weather conditions. By taking these precautionary measures, the city hopes to avoid the chaos and inconvenience experienced during previous heavy rainfall events.
