The recent devastating floods in Punjab have prompted an outpouring of support from various corners, with Punjabi celebrities stepping up to aid those affected. Among those leading the charge are Diljit Dosanjh, Ammy Virk, and Sonam Bajwa, who are contributing in different ways to alleviate the suffering and help rebuild lives. The floods, triggered by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers, have impacted over 2.56 lakh people across 12 out of 23 districts in Punjab, causing loss of life, displacement, and widespread destruction of homes, crops, and infrastructure.
Diljit Dosanjh, a prominent figure in the Punjabi music and film industry, has adopted 10 flood-affected villages in Gurdaspur and Amritsar districts. Collaborating with NGOs and the local administration, Dosanjh's Saanjh Foundation is implementing a phased plan to provide immediate relief, rehabilitate affected families, and support long-term rebuilding measures. The initial phase focuses on distributing essential supplies such as medicines, solar lights, and tarpaulins. Food and water are being provided locally through community initiatives. After the floodwaters recede, the foundation will conduct on-ground assessments to identify the most affected families and begin rehabilitation planning in coordination with NGOs and the administration. The long-term rebuilding phase will involve constructing homes, restoring livelihoods, and supporting livestock, in partnership with local authorities for sustainable rehabilitation.
Ammy Virk, another well-known Punjabi actor and singer, has committed to supporting 200 affected families who have lost their homes. Virk and his team are adopting 200 houses to provide shelter and long-term support. In a statement shared on social media, Virk expressed his sorrow over the devastation and emphasized the importance of providing hope, dignity, and strength to those who have lost everything. Recognizing the need to focus on relief efforts, Virk and the team behind his upcoming film, "Nikka Zaildar 4," have postponed the film's release from September to October 2, 2025. This decision ensures that the spotlight remains on the recovery efforts in the flood-hit regions. The team also plans to visit the affected areas to provide rations and other necessary items.
Sonam Bajwa, a leading actress in Punjabi cinema, has also shown her support for the flood victims. As part of the "Nikka Zaildar 4" team, Bajwa has backed the decision to postpone the film's release to prioritize relief efforts. In an Instagram post, Bajwa shared the revised release date and emphasized the team's commitment to standing by the people of Punjab during these challenging times. The team is planning to visit the flood-affected areas to provide support and essential supplies.
Besides Diljit Dosanjh, Ammy Virk, and Sonam Bajwa, other celebrities like Sonu Sood, Gippy Grewal, Karan Aujla, Ranjit Bawa, Inderjit Nikku, Sunanda Sharma, Sanjay Dutt, Satinder Sartaaj and Jasbir Jassi have also extended their support to the flood victims. These individuals are providing relief materials, financial assistance, and words of encouragement to help those affected rebuild their lives.
The Punjab floods of 2025 have caused immense suffering and devastation, but the response from Punjabi celebrities and other individuals has been heartening. By adopting villages, supporting families, postponing film releases, and providing essential supplies, these celebrities are demonstrating their solidarity with the people of Punjab and helping to restore hope and dignity in the face of adversity.
