A former employee of a private firm in Noida has been apprehended by the Cyber Police for allegedly generating fake Goods and Services Tax (GST) invoices amounting to approximately ₹10 crore. The accused, Abhinav Tyagi, a resident of Greater Noida and originally from Moradabad, is said to have fraudulently claimed input tax credit (ITC) of ₹1.8 crore using these invoices.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Shavya Goyal, Tyagi allegedly created the fake invoices to claim undue GST benefits. The police have seized several items from Tyagi, including four mobile phones, eight SIM cards, a laptop, a car, GST-related documents, and a rent agreement. An FIR has been registered against him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. Tyagi has been presented in court and subsequently sent to jail. The police are currently working to apprehend his accomplice.

Tyagi allegedly colluded with an accomplice to execute the fraud while he was employed in the company's accounts section, where he handled GST filings and tax returns.

Cases of GST fraud in Noida have been reported previously. In February 2024, a 29-year-old man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a ₹10,000 crore GST fraud that involved registering thousands of bogus firms using stolen or fake identities. In March 2024, Noida police arrested two Haryana-based businessmen who allegedly masterminded a multi-crore GST scam. In June 2023, police busted a gang of eight people who were unscrupulously misusing PAN cards of 635,000 people for over five years and created 2,660 shell companies to evade GST worth multiple crores. In another instance, one person was arrested in connection with a GST fraud case of more than ₹10,000 crore by creating fake GST numbers on fake databases.
