A chilling incident unfolded outside the Bareilly home of Bollywood actress Disha Patani on September 12, 2025, when two unidentified assailants opened fire. The sound of barking dogs was reportedly pierced by the sound of three gunshots. The incident, captured on CCTV, showed two individuals on a motorcycle firing multiple rounds at the residence in the early hours of the morning.
Fortunately, Disha Patani was not present at the time, but her parents, Jagdish Patani and Padma, along with her siblings Khushboo and Suryansh, were inside the house. Jagdish Patani, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, narrowly escaped injury by taking cover behind a balcony pillar.
Following the attack, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath contacted Jagdish Patani, assuring him of strict action and emphasizing the government's zero-tolerance policy against crime. He also assured that there would not be any lapses in his security.
The investigation into the shooting led to a joint operation by the Delhi Police Special Cell, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), and the Haryana STF. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the two accused, identified as Ravindra alias Kallu and Arun, were located near Ghaziabad's Tronica City. A shootout ensued, resulting in both suspects sustaining critical injuries. They were taken to a hospital where they were declared dead.
Police have stated that Ravindra was allegedly involved in another case where he had shot at policemen in Haryana’s Fatehabad and was wanted in several other cases. An Apache bike used in the September 12 incident was recovered from the spot in Tronica City. Police also seized a Glock pistol, a Zigana pistol, and a large cache of cartridges.
The Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar gang claimed responsibility for the attack in a social media post. The incident is suspected to be linked to a controversy involving Disha's sister, Khushboo Patani, who criticized 'katha vachak' Aniruddh Acharya for a "misogynist" remark in July. These comments were misinterpreted as being directed at Vrindavan-based seer Premanand Maharaj. Police suspect that the firing was an intimidation tactic linked to extortion. Further investigations are underway to apprehend any other gang members who may be at large.
