Nandamuri Balakrishna's highly anticipated film, Akhanda 2: Thaandavam, has a confirmed release date of December 5, 2025. The makers unveiled a new poster on Dussehra to announce the release date. The film is a sequel to the blockbuster Akhanda, which was released in 2021.
The release date was initially planned for September 25, but was postponed due to pending VFX and post-production work. The new release date is expected to give the film a solo window before the rush of Christmas and Sankranthi releases.
The Dussehra poster reveal sent fans into a frenzy. The poster features Balakrishna in a fierce, warrior-like stance, reminiscent of Lord Shiva, standing on one leg and holding a Trishul (trident). He is dressed in traditional saffron-colored attire, symbolizing spiritual power and raw strength. Multiple rudraksha malas adorn his neck, arms, and wrists. The poster conveys a feeling of gravity, alluding to the sequel's grand ambitions.
Boyapati Sreenu directs Akhanda 2: Thaandavam. The film promises to expand the action universe established in the first film. Balakrishna returns as the spiritual savior, and Aadhi Pinisetty joins the cast as the antagonist. Samyuktha plays the female lead. Other cast members include Pragya Jaiswal and Harshaali Malhotra.
Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is produced on a massive scale by Raam Achanta and Gopichand Achanta under the 14 Reels Plus banner and is presented by M Tejaswini Nandamuri. S Thaman, who composed the music for the first film, returns as the music composer.
The original Akhanda featured Balakrishna in dual roles: Murali Krishna, a moral farmer battling factionalism and illegal uranium mining, and Akhanda, a strong Aghora and devotee of Lord Shiva who becomes a divine force against evil. Akhanda 2 is expected to continue the blend of action, spirituality, and heroism.
The film is nearing completion and is in the final phase of post-production. Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is set for a pan-India release. The makers are expected to begin a new round of promotional activities soon.
