Shah Rukh Khan is making waves in the Indian film industry as his upcoming action thriller, tentatively titled "KING," is reportedly set to become India's most expensive action film with a staggering budget of ₹350 crore. This ambitious project, directed by Siddharth Anand, aims to deliver a never-before-seen spectacle to audiences, potentially setting a new benchmark for action films in India.
Sources indicate that the initial plan for "KING" was a more modest action thriller with Shah Rukh Khan in an extended cameo, helmed by director Sujoy Ghosh, with a budget of ₹150 crore. However, when Siddharth Anand joined the project, he envisioned a much grander scale, leading to a revised budget of ₹350 crore. Shah Rukh Khan, known for his dedication to providing audiences with visually rich experiences, reportedly gave Anand creative freedom to develop the film on a larger scale.
"KING" is being produced by Gauri Khan's Red Chillies Entertainment, in association with Siddharth Anand's Marflix Pictures. Founded in 2002 by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan, Red Chillies Entertainment has been a prominent production house, responsible for numerous successful and critically acclaimed films.
The film is slated to have six major action sequences, with three filmed on real locations and three created on specially constructed sets. Sources suggest that "KING" aims to achieve Hollywood-level visuals at a fraction of the cost, delivering a global film made in India. The film's budget does not include the costs associated with publicity, prints, and other additional expenses.
The release of the teaser on November 2, coinciding with Shah Rukh Khan's 60th birthday, generated considerable excitement among fans. "KING" is expected to hit theaters in 2026 and also marks the Bollywood debut of Shah Rukh's daughter, Suhana Khan. The film will see Shah Rukh Khan playing a mentor with a mysterious past. The movie also stars Deepika Padukone, Raghav Juyal and Jackie Shroff.
With its massive budget, ambitious action sequences, and a stellar cast, "KING" has already become one of the most anticipated films in Bollywood. If the reports are to be believed, it surpasses the budget of "Pathaan", which was reportedly made on a ₹250 crore budget. As fans eagerly await its release, "KING" has the potential to redefine the landscape of Indian action cinema and further solidify Shah Rukh Khan's legacy as a visionary producer.
