Ariana Grande finds Glinda's emotional journey in 'Wicked: For Good' captivating, revealing her favorite aspect of the character.

As the premiere of "Wicked: For Good" approaches, Ariana Grande has been sharing insights into her portrayal of Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Grande has spoken about what specifically draws her to the character, emphasizing Glinda's emotional journey as a central aspect of her fascination.

"Her emotional arc is my favorite thing about her," Grande recently stated, highlighting the complexities of Glinda's transformation throughout the story. According to NBCUNIVERSAL MEDIA, the sequel continues the story from Elphaba's perspective as Oz turns against her, even as Glinda rises as a symbol of hope. "The first tells how Elphaba becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and the second tells how her best friend, Glinda, becomes authentically good". This transformation, from a popular young woman to a symbol of hope and authentic goodness, is what Grande finds most compelling.

Grande's connection to Glinda extends beyond the character's internal evolution. She also appreciates Glinda's style, as seen at the London premiere of "Wicked: For Good" on November 10, where Grande traded in Glinda's signature pink for a vintage black ballgown designed by Gilbert Adrian, the costume designer for the original "The Wizard of Oz". Grande told British Vogue that the gown was sourced from Los Angeles' Lily et Cie, which stocks gowns from the 20th and 21st centuries. The late designer is known for his work on The Wizard of Oz (1939) and enhancing the world of Oz with Dorothy's ruby slippers and Glinda's bubble dress. "To now have it in our personal vintage collection, and to wear something made by him on this carpet, feels so emotional and meaningful," she said.

Grande's stylist, Law Roach, played a crucial role in curating her looks for the "Wicked: For Good" press tour. Grande noted that the looks will be “more mature [and] more emotional" and that “It still feels like an extension of Glinda's story arc. We're just telling a different part of her story,". Roach and Grande reportedly "cried many times" during the fitting for the London premiere look.

"Wicked: For Good" is the second part of the film adaptation of the popular Broadway musical. Directed by Jon M. Chu, the film stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, and adapts the second act of the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman. The film is set to release in the United States on November 21, 2025.
