The Indian government has declared the recent explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi a "heinous terror incident". The blast, which occurred on Monday, November 10, 2025, claimed the lives of at least 13 people and injured over 20 others. The incident took place near the Lal Quila Metro Station's Gate No. 1, a busy area opposite the pedestrian route to Chandni Chowk.
Initial investigations suggest the blast was carried out by a Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) module seeking to avenge damage inflicted on their Bahawalpur headquarters during Operation Sindoor. Delhi Police have filed an FIR under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, confirming the terror attack.
Dr. Umar Un Nabi Bhat, identified as the driver of the explosives-laden car, is believed to have planned the attack to coincide with the Babri Masjid demolition anniversary on December 6. A DNA test has confirmed Dr. Umar Un Nabi Bhat as the Red Fort blast suspect. He was an assistant professor at Al-Falah University. Authorities are also searching for another vehicle owned by Bhat, a red Ford EcoSport.
CCTV footage has emerged showing the moment of the explosion, with a massive ball of flames engulfing several cars at the Chandni Chowk traffic signal on Netaji Subhash Marg. The footage also reveals the panic and chaos that ensued after the blast.
In the wake of the attack, security measures have been significantly heightened across Delhi and several other states. Delhi Police have restricted entry and exit through Gates No. 1 and 4 at the Lal Quila Metro Station. Commuters have been advised to avoid the Lal Quila–Chandni Chowk stretch. Alternative routes include Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, and Shanti Van–Rajghat–Hanuman Setu corridor for through-traffic.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe. Specialized units from the NIA and National Security Guard (NSG) have been deployed to the site, supported by Delhi Police’s Special Cell and forensic teams.
A high alert has been issued across Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Hyderabad, with intensified surveillance around transport hubs, markets, and government buildings. States including Rajasthan, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Noida, and Ayodhya have also been placed on alert. Security has been heightened at all border points in Delhi, including the Ghazipur Border. Vehicles entering and leaving the city are being thoroughly checked.
The government has reiterated its policy of "zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms". Home Minister Amit Shah has instructed senior officials to hunt down every culprit behind the incident. R&AW chief Parag Jain has been given the additional charge of Secretary (Security), responsible for the security of the Prime Minister and other VVIPs.
The incident has heightened national security concerns. Authorities have emphasized vigilance around public transport hubs, markets, and religious or historical sites.
