Senator Rubio Declares Delhi Blast a Terror Attack, Commends India's Thorough and Skilled Investigation.

Rubio Deems Delhi Blast a 'Terror Attack,' Commends India's Investigative Prowess

Washington D.C. - U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has characterized the recent explosion in Delhi as "clearly a terrorist attack" and lauded India's "professionalism" in handling the ongoing investigation. His remarks follow the deadly blast near the Red Fort in Delhi on November 10th, which resulted in 12 fatalities and numerous injuries.

Speaking to reporters in Canada after a meeting of G7 foreign ministers, Rubio affirmed that the United States had offered assistance to India but emphasized his confidence in the capabilities of Indian authorities. "We've offered to help, but I think they're very capable in these investigations," Rubio stated. "They don't need our help, and they're doing a good job".

Rubio highlighted the measured, cautious, and professional approach taken by Indian investigators. He acknowledged the potential for the incident to escalate and mentioned discussing the matter with India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Rubio expressed condolences to Jaishankar for the loss of life in the Delhi blast during a meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Niagara, Canada.

The blast, which involved a car laden with explosives, prompted a large-scale investigation by Indian security agencies, including the NIA, Delhi Police, and central intelligence units. Forensic teams and counterterrorism units are diligently examining evidence to ascertain the motive and identify those responsible. Preliminary analysis of samples from the blast site suggests the possible use of ammonium nitrate.

Indian authorities are investigating the incident under a stringent anti-terrorism law. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has conveyed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and has directed that the investigation be pursued with the "utmost urgency and professionalism". The Cabinet has affirmed that the perpetrators, collaborators, and sponsors will be identified and brought to justice without delay.

Amidst the ongoing investigation, a DNA test has confirmed that Dr. Umar Un Nabi, was the individual driving the car that exploded near Red Fort. Sources indicate that Dr. Nabi was in contact with a handler based in Turkiye. Authorities are also investigating a possible link between the blast and the previous arrest of a group of individuals from the Kashmir region.

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi has also expressed solidarity, with Ambassador Sergio Gor conveying thoughts and prayers to the families of the victims and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.

The Delhi blast marks a significant event, being the first such explosion in the city since 2011. The government has said the incident was perpetrated by "anti-national forces".
