Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply following retaliatory strikes by India after a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. In response to the escalating situation, airports have been placed on high alert, sirens have been activated, and blackouts have been enforced in several cities.

The Indian armed forces have reportedly thwarted attempts by the Pakistani military to target northern and western cities using drones and missiles. Sources indicate that at least eight missiles have been intercepted. The attacks were reported in Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir, prompting authorities to activate defense systems and enforce blackouts. A Pakistan F-16 was allegedly shot down by Indian forces, though official confirmation is pending. India has stated it foiled Pakistan's attempts to engage military targets across 15 cities using drones and missiles. A Pakistani air defense system in Lahore was also reportedly destroyed.

Sirens were heard in Kupwara and Jammu, followed by complete blackouts. The Rajasthan government has cancelled leave for administrative and police personnel deployed near the International Border and closed schools in five districts. Blackouts have been instituted in border districts of western Rajasthan from midnight to 4 am as a safeguard against potential air strikes.

Pakistan has claimed that India targeted the Neelum Jhelum project dam during "Operation Sindoor", but India has refuted these claims as "absolute and complete fabrication". Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri questioned whether this claim was a "pretext" to target similar infrastructure in India, emphasizing that India has only targeted terror infrastructure.

Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) adopted a resolution congratulating the armed forces for their actions in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor.

Several cities across border states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan, experienced complete blackouts. Cities under blackout include Jammu, Rajouri, and Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir, and Jalandhar in Punjab. Sirens were also activated in Akhnoor, Samba, Baramulla, and Kupwara. Srinagar airport has been placed on high alert, and air defense batteries have been activated.

A complete blackout has been ordered in the Gurdaspur district of Punjab from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, effective from May 8, 2025, until further notice. Sixteen people were killed, and 59 others were injured in Pakistani shelling across the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chandigarh and Mohali also experienced sirens and blackouts, with shops asked to close and people directed to go home. Blackouts have also been enforced in Jaisalmer, Amritsar and Panchkula. Pakistan launched at least eight missiles at RS Pura, Arnia, Samba and Hiranagar in Jammu and Kashmir.

Explosions were reported in Jammu and Punjab following a suspected drone attack, leading to air raid sirens and blackouts in several areas. Pakistani drones were intercepted by Indian air defense in Jaisalmer, with explosions and flashes seen. A total blackout was enforced in parts of the border districts of Kutch and Banaskantha in Gujarat.

Eight missiles launched from Pakistan were intercepted by Indian air defense units. The missiles targeted Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia in Jammu, but caused no casualties or damage.

The Indian Armed Forces launched strikes against terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of 'Operation Sindoor'. The operation targeted nine locations, aiming to eliminate leaders of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) responsible for attacks in India, including the Pahalgam attack.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that Operation Sindoor targets terrorism and demonstrates India's power and intent to destroy it.

Twenty-four airports near the India-Pakistan border have been temporarily closed. Airlines have advised passengers to arrive three hours early, and security has been heightened at airports nationwide. A Secondary Ladder Point Check (SLPC) will be conducted for all passengers, visitor entry into terminal buildings has been banned, and Air Marshals will be deployed.
