Nusraat Faria Mazhar, born on September 8, 1993, is a well-known Bangladeshi figure celebrated for her multifaceted career as a film actress, model, singer, television presenter, and radio jockey. Predominantly active in Dhallywood and Tollywood films, Faria has established herself as a prominent personality in the entertainment industry.
Faria's journey began in the realm of debating, where she showcased her intellectual prowess on a BTV debate show. She achieved national recognition as a debate champion in both 2010 and 2011. Transitioning into show business, she started as a model, appearing in numerous television commercials and radio programs, steadily building her presence in the media landscape. In 2014, she took on the role of hosting the reality show "Fair and Handsome: The Ultimate Man," further solidifying her position in the industry.
Her acting career officially commenced with her Dhallywood debut in the film "Aashiqui" (2015), where she starred opposite Ankush Hazra. The film's commercial success catapulted her into the limelight. Following this, she appeared in several other popular films, including "Hero 420" (2016), "Badsha – The Don" (2016), "Premi O Premi" (2017), and "Boss 2: Back to Rule" (2017), establishing her as a sought-after actress in both Bangladeshi and Indian Bengali cinema. Beyond acting, Faria has also ventured into music. She performed in a music video, 'Pataka', written by Rakib Rahul and composed by Pritom Hasan. In 2021, she broadened her academic qualifications by completing a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London, demonstrating her commitment to education alongside her entertainment career.
However, recent news has brought Nusraat Faria into a different kind of spotlight. On May 18, 2025, she was arrested at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The arrest is connected to an attempted murder case filed on April 29, 2025, stemming from violent incidents during anti-government protests in July 2024. These protests, organized by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, involved clashes and significant political unrest, including the resignation of then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Faria is among 17 individuals accused in the case, which alleges the attempted murder of a student in Dhaka’s Vatara area during the demonstrations.
Following her arrest at the airport while en route to Thailand, Faria was initially taken to the Vatara police station. She was later transferred to the Detective Branch (DB) office of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police for further investigation. The case documents reportedly state that Nusraat Faria is accused of financially supporting the Awami League and opposing the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
Nusraat Faria's career highlights include winning a Tele Cine Award for Best Actress from Bangladesh for her role in "Badsha - The Don" (2016), and a Meril Prothom Alo Award for Best Newcomer in film or television for "Aashiqui". In March 2025, she was also announced as one of the performers at the 7th Filmfare Awards Bangla. Additionally, she was selected to anchor the National Film Award '21 ceremony.
