A tragic incident in Maharashtra's Beed district has claimed the lives of six people after a truck ran over them. The incident occurred on Monday night on National Highway-52 near Gadhi village, approximately 100 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
According to officials, the sequence of events began when a car, driven by Deepak Atkare of Gevrai, veered over the divider on the highway at around 8:30 pm. As people gathered to assist in removing the crashed vehicle from the road, a truck ran over them at approximately 11:30 pm.
The impact of the truck resulted in the immediate death of six individuals, while another person sustained injuries. The deceased have been identified as Balu Atkare, Bhagwat Paralkar, Sachin Nannavre, Manoj Karande, Krushna Jadhav, and Deepak Surayya, all residents of Georai in Beed.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are currently working to locate the driver of the truck involved. The police have registered a case and are gathering evidence to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic event.
This incident adds to a series of recent road accidents in Maharashtra. Earlier this month, six people were killed and about 10 others were injured in Nashik district after a tempo and truck collided on a flyover at Dwarka Circle. In March, six labourers lost their lives and 11 others were injured when a speeding truck loaded with sugarcane overturned in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district. Furthermore, in April, three people were killed and 12 others injured when a truck crashed into multiple vehicles on the old Pune-Mumbai highway near Lonavla.
These incidents highlight the critical need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
