A dramatic incident unfolded at Indore's Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport on Tuesday night, June 10, 2025, when a passenger slapped one of the accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, occurred as a team of Meghalaya Police was escorting four men through the airport after obtaining their transit custody from a local court.
The four accused – Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi – are key figures in the investigation into the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore businessman who was allegedly killed during his honeymoon in Meghalaya. According to police reports, Raghuvanshi's wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, is the prime suspect in the case, accused of conspiring with her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, to hire contract killers.
As the Meghalaya Police team made their way through the airport with the accused, a passenger waiting with his luggage reacted with outrage upon seeing them. The passenger, later identified as Sunil Lakwani, suddenly struck one of the accused. Due to the masks worn by the accused, it was not immediately clear whom Lakwani slapped.
Following the incident, Lakwani expressed his anger to reporters, stating that he was furious that a resident of Indore had been murdered. He demanded that all those responsible for Raghuvanshi's death should be sentenced to death. Police quickly intervened and escorted the accused inside the airport to prevent any further incidents.
The Meghalaya Police team has taken the four accused to Shillong for further investigation into the murder. Preliminary investigations suggest that Sonam Raghuvanshi allegedly offered ₹20 lakh to the contract killers. Reports indicate that Raja Raghuvanshi sustained two serious head injuries and that his wife, Sonam, was present when the crime occurred.
The murder of Raja Raghuvanshi has become a sensational case involving allegations of betrayal, conspiracy, and a gruesome act committed during what should have been a joyous honeymoon.
