Aamir Khan recently shared a rather amusing anecdote about his 60th birthday celebrations, revealing that he got "blackout drunk" and has virtually no memory of the event. The actor, who celebrated his milestone birthday on March 14th, has been making headlines while promoting his upcoming film, Sitaare Zameen Par.
In a recent interview, Aamir Khan disclosed that his family, including his daughter Ira and former wife Reena Datta, organized a grand birthday party for him, inviting all his loved ones. While he appreciated the gesture and the presence of everyone dear to him, the evening took an unexpected turn due to a rare indulgence in alcohol.
Aamir confessed that he has significantly cut down on his alcohol consumption, practically to zero. However, on his 60th birthday, he was encouraged by his friends and family to have a drink. Yielding to the celebratory atmosphere, he decided to partake, a decision that led to a rather blurry night.
"Yaar bohot interesting hua," Aamir said, recounting the events. "Ira, Reena, everyone organised a birthday party for me on my 60th. They invited all my loved ones. It was a memorable day, like all the memories will stay with me. I don't drink much these, I've cut down alcohol consumption to almost zero. But that day, because it was my 60th birthday, everybody insisted that I have a drink. Toh maine kaha theek hai. Aur kyunki mujhe aadat nahi hai, bohot jaldi chadh gayi mujhe aur hua kya, main jab… I'm an extreme person. We started at around 7 pm, and by 9 pm, I knew that I was flying.”
The actor humorously admitted that because he wasn't accustomed to drinking, the alcohol had a rapid and potent effect. By 9 PM, just two hours after the party started, he knew he was heavily intoxicated. What followed was a complete blackout, leaving him with no recollection of the rest of the evening.
Aamir further explained that despite the "memorable" occasion, he has no memory of it. Although there are videos and photos from the party, capturing speeches and moments shared with loved ones, Aamir doesn't remember any of it. He described it as a "clean blackout," where he was functioning normally but with no subsequent recall.
This isn't the first time Aamir has spoken about his relationship with alcohol. He previously revealed that he turned to drinking after his divorce from his first wife, Reena Dutta, in 2002. For about a year and a half, he went from being a teetotaler to consuming an entire bottle of alcohol daily, describing it as his "Devdas period." He has since become sober.
Interestingly, Aamir Khan has also been in the news recently for his stance on endorsements. While he has refused to promote alcohol and tobacco brands, he defended his decision to endorse the gaming app Dream 11, stating that if a product is legal, he sees no issue with promoting it. He also mentioned that he doesn't announce the price of the product that he is endorsing because he is not a salesman but a brand ambassador.
