Connor McDavid is facing immense pressure as the Edmonton Oilers face elimination in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers. The Oilers trail the series 3-2, and the weight of expectation is firmly on McDavid's shoulders, who is widely considered the best hockey player in the world.

During a media availability on Monday, McDavid addressed the daunting question of how he handles the pressure, acknowledging the magnitude of the situation. "That's a pretty heavy question," McDavid admitted. However, he revealed his strategy for coping with the stress: "I don't think about it that way. If you think about it that way, you'd probably be pretty crippled in terms of how you prepare and how you play." He emphasizes that focusing on the overwhelming pressure would be detrimental to his performance.

Instead, McDavid channels his energy into preparing for the game and focusing on what he can control. "So it's a big game. Everybody knows that. I know that, and I'm looking forward to it," he stated. He maintains a positive outlook, viewing the high-stakes environment as "fun hockey" and expressing his enjoyment of being part of the series. He also acknowledged the significance of the Stanley Cup being present in the building, remarking, "Anytime the cup's in the building you're playing, it's a good sign."

Despite the external pressure and high expectations, McDavid remains confident in his ability and his team's potential. He believes there is another level that both he and the team can reach. "Everyone has another level, myself included," McDavid asserted. He hopes that Game 5, where he scored his first goal of the series, is a sign of things to come, potentially "opening the floodgates" for him offensively.

McDavid understands that winning the Stanley Cup requires a collective effort. While he embraces his role as a leader and top performer, he knows that he cannot carry the team alone. "It's not really about me. It's about us trying to get a win here tomorrow night," he explained. He underscored the importance of teamwork, stating, "You're not going to win with one guy -- and not even close. I mean, you need everyone pulling on the rope, and one guy can do so much, and he's done just as much as any one man can do.” McDavid's focus remains on the team achieving a victory in Game 6.

The Oilers have shown resilience throughout the playoffs, bouncing back from disappointing losses. McDavid acknowledges this quality, stating, "For whatever reason, our group doesn't like to make it easy on ourselves and put ourselves in another difficult spot." He hopes to draw on the team's past experiences in facing elimination games, particularly their series against Vancouver, where they successfully navigated three such contests.
