Sachin Tendulkar's Advice to Gill and Team: Facing England's Pace Attack Without Kohli and Sharma.

The absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the Indian squad touring England for the five-match Test series has undoubtedly created a void of experience and leadership. As Shubman Gill steps up to lead the team, all eyes are on how the younger batsmen will navigate the challenging English conditions. In this context, the advice of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar becomes invaluable.

Tendulkar, with his vast experience of playing in England, has offered key insights into what it takes for batsmen to succeed there. He emphasizes that success in England is heavily dependent on understanding and adapting to the prevailing conditions, which encompass the overhead conditions, air quality, and pitch condition.

"In England, you always keep three things in mind when you play. First, the overhead conditions. Second, the air quality, and third, the pitch condition. Each one of these factors influences how you should play," Tendulkar stated in a recent interview. He elaborates that batsmen need to be particularly cautious during overcast conditions when the ball tends to swing and seam more. During such phases, focusing on defense and leaving the ball becomes crucial.

Tendulkar stresses that leaving the ball isn't a defensive act, but rather "a show of intent to be able to correctly leave balls and play for the right time." He warns that the start of the game can be particularly challenging as conditions often favor fast bowlers. Therefore, identifying and navigating these difficult phases is essential for survival and building a solid foundation.

Furthermore, Tendulkar advises the batsmen to stay positive and look for scoring opportunities while respecting the conditions. "Identify the areas where you can score runs. And play to the situation and the conditions. That's how you succeed in England," he added. He also pointed out that "being defensive at times is also staying positive" . This highlights the importance of patience, discipline, and adaptability in English conditions.

The upcoming Test series marks a new era for the Indian team, with Shubman Gill leading a relatively inexperienced squad. Gill himself has acknowledged the challenges ahead, particularly given his own modest Test batting average in England. However, he has expressed his commitment to leading by example, both on and off the field. Rishabh Pant, returning from a long hiatus, will serve as vice-captain and will be crucial in providing support and experience to the team.

With the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and other promising talents in the squad, India has the opportunity to unearth new heroes. The team management will also have to make critical decisions regarding the composition of the playing XI, particularly in choosing between a seaming all-rounder and a spinning all-rounder, considering the English conditions.

As India embarks on this challenging tour, Sachin Tendulkar's guidance serves as a beacon, reminding the young batsmen to stay grounded, adaptable, and positive. The series, commencing on June 20, 2025, will not only test their skills but also their mental fortitude in the face of adversity.
