The Seattle Kraken have secured the services of defenseman Cale Fleury for another two years, announcing a contract extension on June 20, 2025. The one-way deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $890,000, a slight increase from his previous $800,000 contract.

Kraken General Manager Jason Botterill expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, stating, "Cale's been an important player in our organization. He's developed into a steady and reliable defenseman, and we're happy to have him under contract for the next two years."

Fleury, 26, has been a part of the Kraken organization since being selected from the Montreal Canadiens in the expansion draft four years ago. While he hasn't consistently held a full-time NHL roster spot, he has proven to be a valuable asset both in Seattle and with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the American Hockey League (AHL).

During the 2024-25 season, Fleury appeared in 14 regular-season games for the Kraken, contributing one assist. However, he made a more significant impact in the AHL, where he served as an alternate captain for the Firebirds. In 39 regular-season games, he registered 26 points (7 goals, 19 assists), earning a spot on the 2025 AHL Pacific Division All-Stars roster.

Throughout his career, the 6-foot-1, 204-pound defenseman has played in 77 NHL regular-season games with the Kraken and Canadiens, accumulating three points (1 goal, 2 assists). In the AHL, he has a more extensive record, with 129 points (32 goals, 97 assists) in 258 regular-season games with the Firebirds, Charlotte Checkers, and Laval Rocket. Fleury has also participated in 28 Calder Cup Playoff games, recording 17 points (5 goals, 12 assists) and was honored in the 2023-24 season with the award for most points by a defenseman in the AHL Playoffs.

Before turning professional, the Carlyle, Saskatchewan native played four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Kootenay Ice and Regina Pats, amassing 127 points (32 goals, 95 assists) in 269 games. Montreal originally drafted Fleury in the third round (87th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft.

Fleury's role with the Kraken is likely to remain consistent: a key contributor for the Firebirds and a dependable option for the Kraken when needed. While he will be subject to waivers if sent down to the AHL, his one-way contract could deter other teams from claiming him. With this new contract, Fleury avoids entering unrestricted free agency and remains with Seattle through the 2026-27 season.
