John Stones has emphatically declared his desire to remain at Manchester City, dismissing any speculation about a potential departure this summer. The 31-year-old defender, whose current contract with the club enters its final year, is determined to stay and contribute to the team's success.

Speaking amidst rumors of a possible exit, Stones asserted, "I want to stay here. I love it. I'm here to help the team. I don't know if there's been any speculation [about going], but I hope that this kind of shuts it down." His statement comes at a time when manager Pep Guardiola has expressed a desire to trim the squad, which he considers "too long" following the recent signings of Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov, further intensifying competition in the center-back position.

Stones' commitment to Manchester City is unwavering, even after an injury-marred 2024-25 season where he only started six Premier League games. He hasn't featured since February due to a thigh injury sustained in the Champions League defeat to Real Madrid. Despite these setbacks, the England international is resolute in his intention to fight for his place in the team.

Reflecting on the challenges he has faced, Stones acknowledged the "dark days" he experienced during his time on the sidelines. "There's been points where you think, you've been giving all this effort, you dedicate all your life, especially how I approach or go about my life, and football, I give everything, on and off the pitch to be here or be ready to play games and [there] are the dark days," he confessed. "Everyone's been through them and [you] think: 'Why is this happening?'"

Despite these moments of doubt, Stones has always chosen to persevere. "You wish it would have gone a different path. All of us have been through different upbringings and challenges through life and what did we do within those situations, was it fight or was it give up?" he said, highlighting his determination to overcome adversity.

Adding to his perspective, Stones expressed gratitude towards new England manager Thomas Tuchel, who invited him to the national team's training camp in Girona and a trip to the Barcelona Grand Prix. Stones said, "It was really nice. Change of scenery for me and to be welcomed and asked to go with the team was really nice to be with the guys and be around the players after the season. I love being around the players after the season. I felt very welcomed and wanted. Hopefully I can bring something else." He viewed this experience as an opportunity to mentor younger players and contribute his leadership skills.

Looking ahead to the new season, Stones is enthusiastic about the challenge posed by the arrival of new players. "I'm one of the older ones! It's exciting. Everything is a challenge. I think that's why we thrive off it. We want to win. The guys who are coming to us are coming for a reason. They're quality and they deserve to be here," he stated, welcoming the increased competition for places.

Despite a recent defeat against Real Madrid in the Champions League, where Stones played in midfield before moving to defense due to an injury, he remains optimistic. "It's not done. We have to stay positive which is difficult right now. Especially in the first half we were right on top," he said, urging his teammates to maintain a positive mindset.

As John Stones enters the final year of his contract, his clear statement of intent confirms his unwavering commitment to Manchester City. Despite injury setbacks and increased competition, he is determined to fight for his place, contribute to the team's success, and continue his journey with the club he loves.
