Following India's defeat in the first Test against England at Headingley, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has issued a strong warning ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston. Shastri's concern stems from what he sees as a potential "problem" with Jasprit Bumrah and the team's reliance on him, coupled with the struggles of the other bowlers.

India lost the first Test by five wickets despite posting a combined 835 runs across the two innings and seeing five centuries from their batters. England comfortably chased down the target of 371 runs on the final day. Jasprit Bumrah was a standout performer, securing match figures of 5/140 in 43.4 overs. However, pre-series plans indicated that Bumrah would only participate in three of the five Tests to manage his workload, considering his past injury concerns.

Shastri, commentating on the match, suggested a possible reconsideration of resting Bumrah for the Edgbaston Test. He emphasized the potential consequences of going 2-0 down in the series without Bumrah, stating, "If he (Bumrah) was looking at a rest, you may have to think twice. If you don't have him and then go 2-0 down, it could be an uphill task."

Adding to the concern is India's recent track record in major tournaments and series. Shastri pointedly noted, "You lost to New Zealand, Australia, and now..." This highlights India's inability to capitalize on key moments in crucial matches. He also criticized the team's catching and lower-order batting resilience. Shubman Gill's team dropped several straightforward catches in both innings at Headingley, and the Indian tail order displayed collapses, losing 7 wickets for 41 runs and 6 wickets for 31 runs in the batting innings respectively.

Shastri highlighted the need for India to show more "bottle" from the tailenders. He stressed the importance of the lower order putting a premium on their wickets and exhibiting greater stubbornness in tough situations.

The second Test at Edgbaston is scheduled to begin on July 2nd. Edgbaston Cricket Ground is renowned for its electric atmosphere. With limited general admission tickets available, the venue is anticipated to be packed with enthusiastic supporters. This match is crucial for India to level the series and regain momentum.

The pressure is mounting on captain Shubman Gill and the team management to make strategic decisions, particularly regarding Bumrah's workload and the composition of the bowling attack. The performance of the other bowlers will be critical to supporting Bumrah and preventing England from gaining a decisive advantage in the series.
