With the second overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, the San Jose Sharks selected center Michael Misa from the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). The selection of Misa adds another dynamic young talent to the Sharks' roster, complementing existing prospects like Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith.

Misa, an Oakville, Ontario native born on February 16, 2007, stands at 6'1" and weighs 183 pounds. He is one of only a handful of players ever granted exceptional status to play major junior hockey a year early. This season, Misa dominated the OHL, leading the league with 134 points (62 goals and 72 assists) in 65 games. His outstanding performance earned him the OHL scoring title and MVP honors. Misa's 62 goals tied for the third-most by a draft-eligible skater in OHL history. He also won a Memorial Cup with Saginaw last season.

Misa's path to the NHL wasn't without its challenges. Despite his strong play, he was left off the Canadian roster for the World Junior Championship. Misa used the snub as motivation, focusing on helping his Saginaw Spirit team.

Leading up to the draft, there was speculation that the Sharks might consider other options, including Anton Frondell. However, San Jose ultimately chose Misa, recognizing his exceptional offensive talent and potential to form a strong center tandem with Celebrini. General Manager Mike Grier acknowledged Misa's historic OHL season, stating that it "spoke for itself".

Misa is known for his skating ability, offensive instincts, playmaking, vision, and puck control. Scouts describe him as a "beautiful skater with some quiet explosiveness" and a player who "makes his linemates better". While he has experience at both wing and center, he thrived down the middle this past season. Misa's skills and winning pedigree suggest he has the potential to develop into a star at the NHL level.

With the draft now concluded, the Sharks, possessing a league-high $41.76MM in cap flexibility, can shift their focus to free agency. While they may not be major players for the top free agents, they could look to add veteran depth to support their young core.
