A video showing a police officer in Kota, Rajasthan, allegedly slapping a shopkeeper so hard that he became unconscious has ignited public outrage. The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 29 in the Kaithunipol area, was captured on CCTV and has since gone viral on social media.
The video depicts Station House Officer (SHO) Pushpendra Bansiwal confronting Rizwan, a shopkeeper who works at a wardrobe shop. According to reports, SHO Bansiwal asked Rizwan to move a motorcycle parked in front of the shop. Rizwan explained that he couldn't move the bike because it was locked and didn't belong to him. Despite Rizwan's explanation, the situation escalated, and the SHO allegedly slapped him. The force of the slap caused Rizwan to collapse in the middle of the road, losing consciousness. The video also shows Bansiwal and other officers dragging Rizwan by his collar, attempting to force him into a police jeep. When Rizwan resisted, he was allegedly slapped again.
Following the incident, Rizwan claimed that he had recently undergone ear surgery and that the police ignored his medical condition. He has filed complaints with the National Human Rights Commission and the Lokayukta and has also registered a case in court. Kota Superintendent of Police Dr. Amrita Duhan has assigned the investigation to DSP Rajesh Taylor, and an inquiry has begun based on the CCTV footage.
SHO Bansiwal has denied the accusations, claiming that Rizwan misbehaved during an operation to clear shopfronts ahead of a Maharana Pratap Jayanti rally. He stated that Rizwan was being taken to the police station for misconduct and denied the assault allegations.
The video has sparked widespread condemnation, with many social media users expressing outrage at the police officer's behavior. The incident has raised concerns about police brutality and abuse of power. Some netizens are questioning whether the SHO has been terminated yet. The incident is under investigation.
