In a shocking case from Palghar, Maharashtra, a man was allegedly murdered and buried inside his own home by his wife and her lover. The deceased, Vijay Chouhan, 34, was a resident of Nallasopara’s Gangnipada area. The incident came to light when Vijay's brothers grew suspicious after not being able to reach him for several days. They visited his home on July 10th, only to find his wife, Chaman Devi, missing and new tiles laid on the floor.
According to police reports, Vijay’s brothers had initially sought him out to borrow money. When their calls went unanswered, they decided to visit him personally. Upon discovering the freshly laid tiles and their sister-in-law’s absence, they suspected foul play and began digging. A foul smell emanating from the floor confirmed their worst fears. They immediately alerted the police, who exhumed Vijay's body in the presence of forensic experts and a local official. The body was in a decomposed state, suggesting that the murder had occurred approximately two weeks prior.
The police have identified Chaman Devi and her alleged lover, Monu Sharma, a neighbor, as the prime suspects. Both are currently absconding, and authorities have launched a manhunt to apprehend them. A case has been registered against the two suspects under sections 103, 238, and 3 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The circumstances surrounding the crime bear a resemblance to the plot of the Indian crime thriller film series 'Drishyam'. In the film, the protagonist conceals a body by burying it under the floor of his house. Similarly, in this case, the accused allegedly attempted to conceal the murder by burying Vijay's body and covering it with new tiles.
Police suspect that Vijay's wife and her lover murdered him and are investigating the motive behind the crime. Investigators are also exploring the possibility that the wife used features such as Instagram's disappearing messages to hide communication with her lover from family members. Preliminary investigations suggest the wife had been in a relationship with her lover for the past two years.
