Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have advanced to the men's doubles semi-finals at the China Open 2025. The pair showcased their dominance with a straight-sets victory over their opponents at the Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium in Changzhou.

Rankireddy and Shetty, currently ranked No. 12 in the world and reigning Asian Games champions, defeated the world No. 28 Malaysian pair Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi. The Indian duo proved too strong, securing a 21-18, 21-14 victory. This win dashed the hopes of an all-Malaysian semi-final in the men's doubles category.

After the match, Shetty mentioned that it was a "topsy-turvy match". In an earlier round, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated Indonesian pair Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana 21-19, 21-19 to reach the quarterfinals.

In other news from the China Open 2025, H.S. Prannoy lost to Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei in the second round with a score of 21-18, 15-21, 8-21. Unnati Hooda also bowed out of the tournament in the women's singles quarter-finals.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are set to face another Malaysian duo, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, in the semi-finals. Chia and Wooi Yik defeated Man Wei Chong and Tee Kai Wun with a score of 21-16, 21-16 to secure their spot in the semi-final. This improves their head-to-head record to 4-3.
