An Air India flight bound for Mumbai was compelled to return to Jaipur International Airport just 18 minutes after takeoff on Friday, July 25, 2025, due to a technical glitch. The pilot decided to turn the aircraft around shortly after its departure from Jaipur.
According to Flightradar, an airline tracking website, the flight took off at 1:35 PM, and its status was subsequently updated to "diverted" back to Jaipur.
This incident is the latest in a series of technical issues affecting Air India flights in recent weeks. On Wednesday, an Air India Express flight to Mumbai aborted takeoff in Delhi due to a technical snag. On the same day, another Air India Express flight to Doha returned to Calicut International Airport after a couple of hours due to a technical fault.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has reported a total of 183 technical snags across five airlines as of July 21, with the Air India Group, including Air India Express, accounting for 85 of these. Reportedly, Air India and its subsidiary have reported approximately 541 technical snags in the past 5 years.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, July 21, an Air India aircraft veered off the runway at Mumbai airport while landing in heavy rain. The Airbus A320 aircraft has been grounded, and the primary runway at Mumbai airport was temporarily shut down. Photos indicate damage to the engine cowling and the trailing edge of a wing flap.
These incidents follow the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad, which has led to increased scrutiny and safety checks. Air India has announced a 15% reduction in long-haul services to stabilize operations.
Travelers have expressed concerns about faulty in-flight systems and communication. Bloomberg reported that over 80 Air India flights were canceled the week following the crash due to technical and non-technical disruptions.
