India has officially presented its proposal to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad to the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee in London. The proposal positions Ahmedabad, Gujarat, as the host city for the Games, which will mark the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Sport Movement.

The Indian delegation, which included Gujarat's Minister of Sports, Harsh Sanghavi, and the President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India (CGA India), P. T. Usha, presented the proposal. Hari Ranjan Rao, Ashwini Kumar, Banchha Nidhi Pani, Raghuram Iyer, Lt Gen Harpal Singh, and Ajay Narang were also key members of the team.

Ahmedabad's proven track record of successfully hosting major events such as the ICC World Cup, IPL, and the 2022 National Games strengthens India's bid. The city is also scheduled to host the Asian Aquatics 2025, Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026, and World Police and Fire Games 2029, which will provide further operational experience leading up to 2030.

The proposal emphasizes a compact Games footprint, centered around international-standard venues, efficient transportation, and high-quality accommodations. It aligns with the Games Reset principles, focusing on affordability, inclusivity, flexibility, and sustainability. The proposal includes the integration of para-sports, protection of human rights, promotion of gender equity, and the establishment of a long-term legacy framework to benefit athletes, communities, and the wider Commonwealth.

Gujarat Sports Minister, Harsh Sanghavi, stated that hosting the Centenary Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad would be a proud milestone for Gujarat and India and serve as a catalyst to inspire youth, accelerate the journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047, and strengthen the Commonwealth Movement for the next 100 years. P. T. Usha added that India's bid is not just about capability but about values, stating that Ahmedabad is ready to build upon the Glasgow 2026 Games and act as a springboard to the 2034 Games.

The Union Cabinet approved India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad as the proposed host city, on August 27. The decision also opened the door for financial support to the Gujarat government if the bid is successful. The Indian Olympic Association's proposal includes guarantees from relevant ministries and departments to meet the event's requirements.

If successful, the 2030 Games aims to be compact, sustainable, inclusive, and globally impactful, setting a new standard for the Commonwealth's flagship multi-sport event. The final decision regarding the host city is expected to be made at the CGF General Assembly in Glasgow in November 2025.
