Amrita Rao has revealed that advice from Shah Rukh Khan early in her career significantly influenced her choices in the film industry, leading to her being "selective" about the roles she accepted.

Rao shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in the 2004 film "Main Hoon Na", directed by Farah Khan. She recently recalled how encouraging Khan was on set and the life-changing advice he gave her. During a break in filming "Main Hoon Na," Shah Rukh Khan, who was also working on another film at the time, invited Rao and her mother to meet him. He praised her qualities and predicted she had the potential to become a superstar.

According to Rao, Khan advised her, “200 filmein aayengi, par humein sirf do filmein karni hai. Aur fir usmein se vo ek film ho that people are waiting for". In other words, he told her that even though she would be offered 200 films, she should only sign two, hoping that one of them would be the film people were waiting for. Rao stated that this advice became her criteria for choosing films, which explains why she has been so selective throughout her career.

Rao also learned valuable lessons from Khan by observing him on the set. She noticed how he took the nervous energy from newcomers and ensured everyone was comfortable. She noted his focus and temperament, sharing that he believed in delivering the best performance in the first take, eliminating the need for a second take.

Amrita Rao's film journey includes her debut in "Ishq Vishk" (2003), for which she won the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female. She had further success in films such as "Masti" (2004), "Main Hoon Na" (2004), "Vivah" (2006), and "Welcome to Sajjanpur" (2008), winning the Stardust Award for Best Actress for the latter. More recently, Rao was seen in "Jolly LLB 3".

Shah Rukh Khan was last seen in the 2023 films "Pathaan", "Jawan" and "Dunki". He is currently filming for Siddharth Anand's "King," alongside his daughter Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.
