Zarine Khan, wife of veteran actor Sanjay Khan and mother to Sussanne Khan, Farah Khan Ali, Simone Arora, and Zayed Khan, passed away peacefully at her Mumbai residence on November 7, 2025, at the age of 81. She had been battling age-related ailments. The news has prompted an outpouring of grief and heartfelt tributes from family, friends, and members of the Bollywood fraternity.
Farah Khan Ali, a renowned jewelry designer, shared an emotional tribute to her mother on Instagram, expressing the profound loss and celebrating Zarine Khan's remarkable life. In her post, Farah described her mother as a "very special woman" whose philosophy was to "Forgive and Forget". She highlighted Zarine's kindness, warmth, and deep care for everyone, emphasizing that she was "the bond that kept our family together".
Farah also addressed the diverse religious background of her mother, noting that Zarine was "Born a Parsi, Married as a Muslim and cremated according to Hindu rites". She emphasized that her mother "epitomised Humanity and is someone whose legacy we hope to live". Farah further pledged to continue her mother's legacy by keeping the family bonded together and cherishing her friends. "You will be missed because no one can ever be like you," she wrote, adding, "Your legacy will always continue to inspire many and I promise to walk in your footsteps and keep our family bonded together forever".
Sussanne Khan also penned a touching tribute to her mother, referring to her as her "Bestestttttt Friend, My God, My Life". She wrote, "Our Beautiful Mummy.. you are always going to be our Guiding Light... You taught us all to live it our own way... with the epitome of Grace and Love...". Sussanne expressed her hope to be "even half as much light as amazing as you were," and vowed to love her mother "beyond Love, beyond Life.. and from now Untill we all meet again n laugh and dance together".
Zarine Khan, born Zarine Katrak into a Parsi family, had a brief acting career, appearing in films like Tere Ghar Ke Samne and Ek Phool Do Mali. She later became known as an interior designer and author.
The funeral rites were performed on November 8, 2025, with Zayed Khan performing the last rites according to Hindu rituals. Sanjay Khan and Sussanne Khan, along with her sisters, were present. Numerous Bollywood personalities, including Hrithik Roshan (Sussanne's former husband), Kajol, Bobby Deol, Aly Goni, Jasmin Bhasin, and Niketan Dheer, were present to pay their respects. Hema Malini and Saira Banu also paid tribute to Zarine, remembering her kindness and elegance.
Zarine Khan is survived by her husband Sanjay Khan, her daughters Sussanne, Farah, and Simone, and her son Zayed Khan. A prayer meeting to honor Zarine Khan will be held on November 10 in Mumbai.
