A British Airways flight en route from London to Hyderabad was subject to a bomb threat on December 22, 2025. The flight, BA 277, departed from London's Heathrow Airport and landed safely at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad on December 23, 2025.
Airport authorities received the bomb threat via email directed to their customer support service on Monday. Upon the safe landing of the aircraft, standard safety protocols were immediately activated. These protocols included isolating the aircraft, conducting thorough screenings of passengers and baggage, keeping fire engines on standby, and deploying sniffer dogs to check for any suspicious items.
After a comprehensive security check by airline staff and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the threat was declared a hoax. The aircraft was cleared and subsequently departed for its return flight to Heathrow.
This incident follows a pattern of similar bomb threat emails received by Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in recent weeks. Earlier in December, two Indigo flights, one from Madina and another from Sharjah, were also targeted with similar threats. In one instance, the Madina-Hyderabad flight was diverted to Ahmedabad Airport as a precautionary measure. Just prior to the British Airways incident, on December 22, 2025, a KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight from Amsterdam to Hyderabad also received a bomb threat, but landed safely.
Airport officials have confirmed that these threats are being taken seriously and that investigations are underway. They have also reiterated the importance of coordinated responses between airlines, airport operators, and security agencies to manage such situations effectively. Authorities are working to identify the source of these emails and ensure the safety and security of all passengers and flights.
