Ranveer Singh, riding high on the blockbuster success of "Dhurandhar," has reportedly exited "Don 3". This decision comes amidst the phenomenal run of "Dhurandhar," which is nearing ₹600 crore in domestic net earnings and is expected to climb even higher during the New Year holidays.
Sources indicate that Singh is now carefully considering the types of films he wants to pursue next, particularly after the massive success of "Dhurandhar". He is reportedly eager to collaborate with filmmakers like Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Atlee. Moreover, Singh is allegedly hesitant to take on back-to-back gangster roles, especially with "Dhurandhar" already establishing him in that genre. This is reportedly one of the primary reasons he has asked Jai Mehta to expedite the filming of "Pralay". Singh is said to be very interested in fast-tracking "Pralay" and commencing production sooner than initially planned.
Following Ranveer Singh's departure from "Don 3", producers are reportedly seeking a new actor to portray Don, with the aim of commencing shooting by late January 2026.
"Dhurandhar," directed by Aditya Dhar, has exceeded expectations, becoming a major commercial success despite mixed reviews. The film has grossed over ₹800 crore worldwide in just 17 days, solidifying its position as the biggest hit of Ranveer Singh's career. "Dhurandhar" has not only surpassed Singh's previous highest-grossing film, "Padmaavat" (₹572 crore), by a significant margin but has also outperformed other major releases of 2025.
The film's success is attributed to strong word-of-mouth and repeat viewership. "Dhurandhar" has also achieved the distinction of being the second-highest-grossing film of 2025 across all languages.
"Dhurandhar" faced competition from James Cameron's "Avatar: Fire and Ash" but managed to outperform it, even with fewer screens and no IMAX showings after its first two weeks. "Dhurandhar" has earned over $20.5 million overseas and has crossed ₹100 crore in its third week.
The massive success of "Dhurandhar" marks a significant comeback for Ranveer Singh, who, according to his co-star Ankit Sagar, was affected by previous films that didn't perform well. Sagar noted that Singh remained focused throughout the filming of "Dhurandhar".
Given the film's strong performance and the upcoming holidays, "Dhurandhar" is projected to continue its successful run and possibly reach even greater heights. Riding on the success of "Dhurandhar", makers have announced "Dhurandhar 2", scheduled for release on March 19, 2026.
