US Influencer's Mockery of Indian Man's Death in Canada Sparks Outrage: 'Could Have Stayed in Mumbai'

A controversy has erupted over a U.S. influencer's social media post mocking the death of an Indian man in Canada. Andrew Branca, an attorney and influencer, is facing backlash for his comments made on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the death of Prashant Sreekumar, a 44-year-old Indian man who died in Edmonton, Canada, after waiting for treatment at a hospital.

Sreekumar was admitted to the Grey Nuns Community Hospital on December 22 after experiencing severe chest pain while at work. According to reports, he was left unattended for over eight hours despite his complaints of excruciating pain. Sreekumar's family stated that hospital staff informed them that an ECG showed no significant issues and that they were kept waiting. During this time, he was given Tylenol, but his blood pressure continued to rise. Despite attempts to resuscitate him, Sreekumar passed away.

Following Sreekumar's death, Branca posted on X, referring to Sreekumar as "another Indian invader of Canada". He further added, "I note that she and her husband could have easily avoided the shty Canadian healthcare by staying in Mumbai and enjoying the shty Indian healthcare".

Branca's remarks have been widely condemned as insensitive and hateful, sparking outrage on social media. Many users have criticized Branca for mocking the death of a person and for his anti-India sentiments. One user wrote, "A man died and all you can think of his hate and dance on his grave," while another called Branca a "despicable disgusting excuse of a man".

Branca, who is described as a MAGA influencer, has a history of making disparaging comments about India and Indians. In the past, he has stated that Indians on H-1B visas should be deported from the U.S., even if they contribute significantly to the economy. Despite the widespread criticism, Branca has continued to defend his remarks and mock those who have called him out. In response to the backlash, he has posted further comments, demonstrating a lack of remorse.

The incident has ignited a debate about healthcare systems in both Canada and India, as well as the broader issue of immigration. Some users have defended Canada's healthcare system, while others have pointed to the long wait times and alleged neglect that Sreekumar experienced. Others have criticized Branca's remarks as being xenophobic and insensitive to the plight of immigrants. The controversy continues to unfold on social media, with many users calling for Branca to apologize for his comments.
