The Yadav family, prominent in Uttar Pradesh politics, is facing turmoil as Prateek Yadav, son of the late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, announced his intention to divorce his wife, Aparna Yadav, in a scathing social media post. The announcement, made on Instagram, accuses Aparna of being "selfish" and alleges that she "ruined his family ties".
Prateek Yadav's post stated, "I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to become is famous and influential". He further claimed to be struggling with his mental health and alleged that Aparna showed no concern for his condition. "Right now, I am in a very bad mental health condition, and she doesn't bother. Because it's only herself she bothers about. I have never seen such a bad soul, and I was unfortunate to get married to her," he added.
Aparna Yadav is the vice-chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Women's Commission and a BJP leader. She entered active politics in 2017 with the Samajwadi Party, contesting the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections from the Lucknow Cantonment seat. She later joined the BJP in 2022. Her move to the BJP was widely discussed due to her family's ties to the Samajwadi Party. She has publicly supported BJP initiatives and donated to the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Aparna's camp has dismissed Prateek's allegations, claiming that his Instagram account was hacked and that he is unable to edit or delete the post. They indicated that an official statement would be issued soon. However, as of now, Aparna Yadav has not responded directly to the allegations.
Prateek Yadav is a real estate developer and fitness enthusiast. Unlike other members of the Yadav family, he has stayed away from politics. He is also known for his interest in animal welfare. He is the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav's second wife, Sadhna Yadav, and the stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav, who currently heads the Samajwadi Party.
Prateek and Aparna married in 2011. Sources suggest that tensions arose over time due to personal differences, family expectations, and Aparna's political ambitions. Her increasing involvement in politics, particularly after joining the BJP, reportedly created unease within the Yadav family.
The public announcement of the divorce and the serious allegations have triggered widespread discussion and media coverage. The dispute is considered politically significant due to the prominence of the Yadav family and Aparna's role in the BJP.
