Inter Miami Boosts Messi's Squad: Two New Key Player Signings Announced to Strengthen the Team

Inter Miami is bolstering its squad as they prepare to defend their MLS Cup title, announcing the signings of goalkeeper Luis Barraza and homegrown player Daniel Pinter. These acquisitions mark the eighth and ninth reinforcements, respectively, for the Herons during a busy winter transfer window.

Luis Barraza, a 29-year-old goalkeeper, joins Inter Miami as a free agent with a contract that runs through June 2027, including an extension option until June 2028. Barraza brings a wealth of experience, having played in Major League Soccer, the USL Championship, and MLS NEXT Pro. Last season, he made 24 appearances for D.C. United, recording four clean sheets. His career highlights include winning the MLS Cup in 2021 and the Campeones Cup in 2022. Before turning professional, Barraza played college soccer at Marquette University, where he was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018. Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano will likely provide Barraza opportunities to play due to a heavy schedule, which includes defending their MLS title and competing in the Concacaf Champions Cup, Leagues Cup, and Campeones Cup.

Daniel Pinter, an 18-year-old forward, signed a homegrown player contract that extends through the 2027-28 MLS season, with options for 2028-29, 2029-30, and 2030-31. Pinter is the tenth Inter Miami CF Academy product to sign for the First Team. He made his professional debut in 2024 with Inter Miami CF II in MLS NEXT Pro and signed his first professional deal ahead of the 2025 season. Pinter also made his First Team debut in an MLS regular season match against Charlotte FC. In 2024 and 2025, he made 19 appearances for Inter Miami II, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists. Pinter has represented both the United States and Hungary at the youth level.

These signings come as Inter Miami prepares for their first preseason test against Alianza Lima in Peru. The team faces high expectations as they aim to repeat as MLS champions and win titles in the Concacaf Champions Cup and Leagues Cup. The match against Alianza Lima marks the start of a four-match Champions Tour, with subsequent games in Colombia, Ecuador, and Puerto Rico. Inter Miami will kick off the 2026 MLS season against Los Angeles FC on February 21.
