In preparation for the 77th Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2026, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive advisory outlining traffic restrictions and diversions across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). These measures are to ensure the smooth and secure passage of the Republic Day parade and to maintain security in the capital.

The Republic Day parade will commence at 10:30 am from Vijay Chowk, proceeding along Kartavya Path to the Red Fort. The parade route will be: Vijay Chowk-Kartavya Path-'C'-Hexagon-R/A Statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose-Tilak Marg-Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg-Netaji Subhash Marg-Red Fort.

Key traffic restrictions include:

  • No traffic will be allowed on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate starting at 6:00 pm on January 25, until the parade concludes on January 26.
  • There will be no cross-traffic on Kartavya Path from 10:00 pm on January 25, at Rafi Marg, Janpath, and Man Singh Road until the parade is over.
  • 'C' Hexagon-India Gate will be closed for traffic from 9:15 am on January 26 until the parade crosses Tilak Marg.
  • From 10:30 am on January 26, vehicular movement will not be allowed on Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, and Netaji Subhash Marg. Cross traffic will be permitted based on the parade's progress.

Restrictions on specific vehicle types are also in place:

  • No TSRs (Taxi Service Request) and taxis will be allowed to enter or operate after 7:00 am on January 26 in specified areas.
  • Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTV), Medium Goods Vehicles (MGV), and Light Goods Vehicles (LGV) (excluding those carrying essential services) will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 9:00 pm on January 25 until the parade concludes on January 26.

For commuters traveling to railway stations:

  • New Delhi Railway Station: From South Delhi, take Dhaula Kuan-Vande Matram Marg-Panchuian Road-Outer Circle Connaught Place-Chelmsford Road for Pahar Ganj Side or Minto Road-Bhavbuti Marg for Ajmeri Gate side. From East Delhi-Boulevard Road via ISBT Bridge-Rani Jhansi Flyover.
  • Old Delhi Railway Station: Use Ring Road-Bhairon Road-Mathura Road-Lodhi Road-Aurobindo Marg-Safdarjung Road-Teen Murti Marg-Mother Teresa Crescent Park Street-Shankar Road-Vande Matram Marg.

Commuters from Gurugram, Noida, and other NCR areas are advised to use alternative routes such as the KMP/KGP Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

The Delhi Traffic Police has urged the public to avoid non-essential travel, plan journeys in advance, and stay updated with real-time traffic information through their social media channels (Facebook and X) and helpline. They have also advised the public to remain patient, adhere to traffic rules, and follow the directions of traffic personnel deployed at intersections.

Furthermore, the flying of sub-conventional aerial platforms like para-gliders, para motors, hang gliders, UAVs, and UASs is prohibited on Republic Day.

Stringent security measures will be in place across Central Delhi and surrounding areas. Barricading will be implemented at various border points, and parking will be strictly prohibited on major roads. These restrictions are aimed at maintaining a secure environment for the Republic Day celebrations.
