Rishabh Sawhney Celebrates 'Fighter' Anniversary, Acknowledges Director Siddharth Anand as His Guru in Moving Tribute.

On the second anniversary of the release of "Fighter," actor Rishabh Sawhney, who played the menacing villain Azhar Akhtar, has penned a heartfelt note acknowledging director Siddharth Anand as his "Guru". Sawhney credits Anand for guiding his talent and spirit, emphasizing the director's role in shaping his career.

Sawhney began his acting journey in 2019 at Prithvi Theatre. Before landing his breakthrough role in "Fighter," he worked as a model and appeared in web series such as "The Empire" and "Kaun Banegi Shikharwati". He also gained experience behind the camera as a casting assistant. Rishabh's association with "Fighter" began with what he initially thought was just another audition call. The audition led to extensive discussions with Anand, which culminated in Sawhney being cast as the antagonist.

In his note, Sawhney highlighted the Indian concept of the Guru, who is considered equal to God and guides talent and spirit. He stated that Anand has been that guiding figure for him [@s1danand, you've been that person for me]. Sawhney also expressed that working under Anand exposed him to high-level filmmaking and calm leadership.

Anand, known for his work in both romantic comedies and action films, recognized Sawhney's potential and cast him as the primary antagonist in "Fighter". Anand's vision for the character required Sawhney to bulk up. Sawhney mentioned that Anand told him to imagine himself as Thanos facing The Avengers. To achieve the desired look, Sawhney gained six to seven kilograms in fifteen days. Anand also had a specific vision for the character's look, including the "red eye" effect and straight hair with no beard.

"Fighter," which was released on January 25, 2024, stars Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, and Anil Kapoor in key roles. The film revolves around the lives of Indian Air Force pilots and their mission to protect the nation. Sawhney's portrayal of the menacing Azhar Akhtar earned him widespread recognition and praise.

Anil Kapoor, who played Group Captain Rakesh "Rocky" Jaisingh in "Fighter," also shared his reflections on the film's second anniversary. Kapoor expressed gratitude for the memories and the love from audiences that keep the film relevant. He noted that "Fighter" continues to live on in people's hearts, with some stories and experiences going beyond the big screen.

Sawhney's journey from a civil engineer to a recognized actor exemplifies his adventurous spirit. After working as a civil engineer, he shifted to Mumbai to pursue acting, gaining experience in theatre, modeling, and casting before landing his role in "Fighter". He also owns One8 Commune Hyderabad, after the response at Juhu, Mumbai.

Siddharth Anand's "Fighter" marked the first film produced under his production company, Marflix Pictures. Anand has directed commercially successful films like "Salaam Namaste," "War," and "Pathaan". He is set to direct "King" starring Shah Rukh Khan.
