Guwahati’s Narangi Station became the epicenter of opportunity on February 7, 2025, as it hosted a mega job fair specifically tailored for ex-servicemen seeking re-employment and new career paths. The event, organized by the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare (DESW), Ministry of Defence, served as a crucial link, connecting veterans with potential employers on a common platform.
The job fair witnessed an overwhelming response from ex-servicemen hailing from Assam and neighboring regions. Over 1000 veterans, representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force, registered, eager to explore the available employment opportunities. The participating veterans had the chance to explore over 1500 job vacancies and more than 250 entrepreneurship opportunities.
Approximately 55 companies participated in the event, spanning various sectors. These companies offered a diverse range of positions, from senior supervisors and mid- to senior-level managers to strategic planners and project directors. The shortlisted candidates were then interviewed and screened for suitable roles.
The initiative proved mutually beneficial. Ex-servicemen gained a platform to showcase their unique skill sets acquired during their years of service, while corporations benefited from accessing a pool of experienced, disciplined, and trained individuals. Assam Minister Prashanta Phukan inaugurated the event.
Beyond employment prospects, the Narangi Military Station also hosted the Veteran Swabhiman Rally 2025. This event honored the sacrifices of armed forces veterans and expressed solidarity with the families of fallen heroes. Assam Governor Lakman Prasad Acharia graced the occasion as the chief guest, with over 2,500 veterans from Assam and neighboring regions in attendance. The rally facilitated access to essential services such as medical support, pension advice, and skill development opportunities.
