The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) has taken legal action against the Karnataka BJP following a controversial social media post targeting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other ministers. The KPCC's legal team filed a complaint with the cybercrime police in Bengaluru, prompting the registration of a case.
The complaint centers on a post made on the Karnataka BJP's official X (formerly Twitter) handle. The post, which included images of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and other cabinet members, was captioned "Scam Lords". The KPCC alleges that the post was deliberately designed to defame the leaders and create confusion among the public by falsely accusing them of looting the state.
In its complaint, the KPCC argues that the content is misleading, malicious, and intended to tarnish the reputations of the targeted individuals without providing any substantiation. The original post by BJP Karnataka on X stated, "This is the real story of the scam empire of the @INCKarnataka government that has been looting Karnataka day and night!! #CongressFailsKarnataka #ScamSarkara".
The Congress party asserts that the "Scam Lords" post constitutes character assassination and an attempt to sow discord within society. The KPCC legal team has accused the BJP's social media team of orchestrating a systematic conspiracy to undermine individuals holding constitutional positions. They are urging for strict action against such posts that disrupt social harmony.
Police officials have confirmed that the complaint has been accepted and a case has been registered, and that an investigation is underway to examine the allegations and determine if any legal violations have occurred. The investigation will also focus on identifying individuals within the BJP's IT cell who may be served notices.
Meanwhile, BJP Karnataka President B.Y. Vijayendra has demanded an investigation into what he says is a Rs 6,000 crore excise scam, and is calling for the resignation of state Excise Minister Ramappa Timmapur. Vijayendra stated that the investigation should be conducted by either a sitting High Court judge or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
