PM Modi Concludes Malaysia Visit: Returns to India After Strengthening Bilateral Ties Over Two Days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed for India on Sunday, February 8, 2026, concluding a productive two-day official visit to Malaysia. The visit, made at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, focused on strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

During the visit, PM Modi held wide-ranging discussions with PM Ibrahim, with a particular emphasis on deepening cooperation in areas such as defence, security, and trade. The leaders also explored opportunities for collaboration in emerging technologies like AI and semiconductors.

Upon his departure, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, posted on social media, "A memorable visit concludes! After a successful visit to Malaysia, marked by special warmth and hospitality and anchored in our close cultural bonds, PM @narendramodi has departed for India. The visit produced significant outcomes that will add substantial strength to India-Malaysia ties,".

PM Modi's engagements included a ceremonial welcome at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya. He also met with Indian National Army (Azad Hind Fauj) veteran Jeyaraj Raja Rao in Kuala Lumpur, expressing the gratitude of all Indians for the INA's courage and sacrifice. Furthermore, he interacted with Malaysian ministers, parliamentarians, and senators of Indian origin, acknowledging their role in strengthening bilateral relations.

The visit saw the exchange of eleven Memoranda of Understanding and agreements, demonstrating a commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration across various sectors. These documents covered diverse areas, including security cooperation, UN peacekeeping, semiconductors, health and medicine, disaster management, combating corruption, audio-visual co-production, vocational education, and social security for Indian workers.

PM Modi highlighted the historical and cultural ties between India and Malaysia, noting that Malaysia is home to a significant population of Indian origin. He emphasized the shared civilizational heritage and democratic values that bind the two countries together.

PM Ibrahim hosted an official luncheon in honor of PM Modi, further solidifying the personal connection between the two leaders. At a joint press conference, PM Ibrahim affirmed that Malaysia and India would continue to strengthen collaboration, especially after the elevation of their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024. He also emphasized India's importance as a key partner for Malaysia, with expanding cooperation across trade, investment, education, technology, and tourism.

PM Modi also placed the India-Malaysia partnership within the broader context of the Indo-Pacific region, describing it as a growth engine for the world. He reaffirmed India's commitment to development, peace, and stability in the Indo-Pacific alongside ASEAN. He outlined plans to deepen cooperation in counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and maritime security, with the aim of making defence ties more comprehensive.

On Saturday, prior to the official engagements, PM Modi addressed the Indian diaspora, recognizing their role as a "living bridge" between India and Malaysia. During this address, he announced the establishment of a new consulate in Malaysia.

The Prime Minister's visit underscores the commitment of both India and Malaysia to deepen their strategic partnership and explore new avenues for collaboration in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
