The Mahindra Blues Festival is set to return for its 14th edition on February 14 and 15, 2026, at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai, promising a vibrant celebration of blues music. Among the stellar lineup is the Altered Five Blues Band, a dynamic quintet hailing from Milwaukee, known for their potent blend of original blues and electrifying live performances.
The Altered Five Blues Band, with Jeff Taylor at the helm, has been crafting their unique sound for over two decades. Critics have lauded Taylor's vocals, describing them as possessing a "smooth, warm-toned voice as monumental and undeniable as Howlin' Wolf with the finish and flourish of B.B. King". Guitarist Jeff Schroedl has also received accolades for his "mixed invention and fluidity". Fueled by a rhythm section that lays down deep grooves, the band has consistently delivered high-energy performances and award-winning recordings.
The band's commitment to the blues stems from a genuine love for the genre. Their upcoming performance at the Mahindra Blues Festival marks their debut in India. The band is known for its strong brew of tough, original blues and hard-hitting live shows.
The 2026 Mahindra Blues Festival boasts a diverse lineup of both familiar faces and artists who are pushing the boundaries of blues music. Alongside the Altered Five Blues Band, the festival will feature the return of multi-Grammy nominee Shemekia Copeland, American guitar virtuoso Eric Gales, and British guitarist Matt Schofield. Copeland, who performed at the inaugural festival in 2011 and again in 2017, is celebrated for her fearless vocals and engaging stage presence. Gales, known for his left-handed guitar prowess, has captivated audiences worldwide and was named Best New Talent by Guitar World Magazine in 1991. Schofield, inducted into the British Blues Awards Hall of Fame, is recognized for his innovative approach to British blues.
Adding to the excitement, India's own Blackstratblues, led by Warren Mendonsa, will bring their instrumental sound that blends blues, rock, and psychedelia to the stage. The festival will also introduce D.K. Harrell, a rising star in the blues scene, who is making his India debut.
The Mahindra Blues Festival continues its tradition of supporting emerging talent through initiatives like the Big Blues Band Hunt, the Kanakia Beatz Crew, and the Nanhi Kali Choir.
Jay Shah, Vice President of Cultural Outreach at Mahindra Group, noted the growing interest in blues music and the festival's commitment to preserving and promoting the genre. "We are witnessing a growing interest in blues," he said. "This cultural shift is significant, as there are so many talented individuals and pioneers who are striving to preserve and propel the magic of this genre. We at Mahindra Group are always happy to join in this movement to preserve and propagate a genre that has healed so many hearts with its honesty and hope".
As the festival approaches, anticipation builds for another unforgettable weekend of blues music, bringing together artists and fans from around the globe.
