Rekha Gupta on Delhi's 4,000 EV Bus Launch: PM Modi's Leadership a Driving Force for Green Transportation.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a fleet of 4,000 electric buses (EVs) on Sunday, February 8, 2026, commemorating the first anniversary of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Delhi government. The launch ceremony, attended by BJP National President Nitin Nabin, marks a significant step towards modernizing public transport and reducing the city's carbon footprint.

Gupta, in her address, attributed the achievement to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, highlighting the increasing role of women in governance. She emphasized that the event celebrated both a milestone in urban mobility and the administration's "women-led development" philosophy. Gupta noted the team's year-long effort and expressed her pleasure in serving the people of Delhi, thanking them for their trust and blessings.

With the addition of these 4,000 EV buses, Delhi now boasts the largest EV fleet in the country. This initiative is expected to significantly improve air quality and address the growing transport needs of the city. The Chief Minister also mentioned plans to expand the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus fleet to 14,000 by 2028.

The new EV buses are equipped with several modern features, including air conditioning, low floors, panic buttons, CCTV cameras, live tracking, and motorized ramps. These features are designed to enhance passenger safety and accessibility, especially for passengers with disabilities. Select DEVI buses also feature retractable steps at a low height of 40 cm to ease boarding and alighting. Furthermore, these buses will serve areas previously inaccessible to standard buses.

In addition to the EV bus launch, Chief Minister Gupta and other dignitaries flagged off the Delhi-Panipat bus service, marking the commencement of inter-state e-bus services. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh highlighted the government's continuous efforts to improve the transport sector, including providing last-mile connectivity to residents.

Gupta stated that the people of Delhi, by electing the BJP government, ended years of developmental neglect. She also referred to the "triple-engine government" and the allocation of ₹9,000 crore towards transport department expansion, including charging stations, depots, and service centers. The Delhi Electric Vehicle Initiative (DEVI) aims for a 100% electric public transport system in Delhi.
