The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections have concluded, revealing a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) victory. While the NDA secured a majority, one of the notable aspects of the election was the performance of Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj Party. Although the party failed to win any seats, data suggests that it may have played spoiler in numerous constituencies.
The Jan Suraaj Party contested 238 seats but lost its deposit in 236 of them. Despite this, in 35 seats, the number of votes garnered by Jan Suraaj was greater than the winning margin. This suggests that the presence of Jan Suraaj candidates may have influenced the outcome in these constituencies by potentially diverting votes from other parties.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured 202 seats, while the Mahagathbandhan managed to win 35. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party in Bihar for the first time in a state election, securing 89 seats. Janata Dal (United), led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, secured 85 seats.
Trends showed a strong lead for the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The NDA's performance across various parties within the alliance appeared robust, securing a dominant position in the early stages of vote counting. The opposition Mahagathbandhan (MGB) trailed behind. Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) performed better than its alliance partners but was still far from matching the NDA's pace.
Several key candidates emerged victorious in the Bihar elections. BJP's Maithili Thakur secured a significant victory in Alinagar. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav won in Raghopur by a margin of over 14,000 votes. In a close contest, BJP's Chhoti Kumari defeated RJD candidate Khesari Lal Yadav by 7,600 votes.
In its lone win in Bihar, Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) edged past the BJP by a narrow margin of just 30 votes in the Ramgarh seat. Satish Kumar Yadav of BSP won the Ramgarh seat. In the final tally, Yadav secured 72,689 votes, narrowly surpassing BJP's Ashok Kumar Singh, who garnered 72,659 votes.
