In a tragic incident in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, a car collided with a truck, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuries to one. The accident occurred around 5:30 AM near Chirchari village, within the Baghnadi police station limits.
According to police reports, the car was en route to neighboring Odisha when it veered off the divider and collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction. Rajnandgaon Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg stated that the victims, a group of seven friends aged between 25 and 30 years, were traveling from Indore and were on their way to Puri in Odisha after visiting Ujjain.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver may have fallen asleep, causing the car to drift into the opposite lane. Five of the car's occupants died at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries in a nearby hospital. The driver, who sustained serious injuries, is currently receiving treatment at a medical college hospital.
Authorities have identified five of the deceased as Akash Maurya (28), Govind (33), Aman Rathore (26), and Nitin Yadav (34), all residents of Madhya Pradesh, and Sangram Kesari of Odisha. Further investigations into the accident are underway.
In a separate incident from 2018, ten people were killed and four others injured in the same district when an SUV collided with a truck on the Rajnandgaon-Durg road. This earlier accident occurred in the early hours when the SUV driver attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided head-on with a truck.
