Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha has lauded the central government's decision to end the practice of 10-minute delivery services by quick-commerce platforms, citing concerns over the safety and well-being of gig workers. The decision follows growing concerns that the ultra-fast delivery model puts undue pressure on delivery personnel, leading to unsafe working conditions.
Chadha expressed his gratitude towards the central government for what he termed a "timely, decisive, and compassionate" intervention. He believes that removing the "10-minute delivery" branding from quick-commerce platforms is a significant step towards reducing the constant and dangerous stress faced by delivery riders on Indian roads. Chadha conveyed his sentiments on X, formerly Twitter, stating, "Satyamev Jayate. Together, we have won," while also thanking citizens who supported "human life, safety and dignity".
Chadha has been a vocal advocate for gig workers' rights, raising concerns about their working conditions and demanding fair wages and social security. He previously criticized the "exploitative realities" of gig work and spent New Year's Eve with gig workers who were on a nationwide strike. In December 2025, Chadha called for a ban on 10-minute delivery services, highlighting the inhumane working conditions faced by delivery agents. He pointed out that the pressure to meet unrealistic deadlines forces delivery workers to overspeed, jump signals, and risk their lives. He also noted that customers often harass delivery workers for late deliveries, affecting their ratings and earnings.
The Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has directed major quick-commerce and food delivery platforms, including Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy, and Zomato, to remove 10-minute delivery promises from their apps and promotional material. This directive came after discussions between the labour ministry and company officials, with worker safety being the primary concern. The government is not seeking to ban fast deliveries, but wants companies to move away from rigid, time-bound promises.
Blinkit has already taken steps to comply with the advisory, changing its tagline from "10,000+ products delivered in 10 minutes" to "30,000+ products delivered at your doorstep". Other platforms are expected to follow suit in the coming days.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also welcomed the central government's decision, calling it a "timely, humane, and far-sighted" move that prioritizes the safety and lives of delivery personnel. CAIT has been consistently raising concerns about the unregulated and risky business model of quick commerce, and had sent a detailed letter to the central government in October 2025, highlighting violations of law, non-compliance with labor safety norms, and the exploitation of delivery personnel.
