Ranveer Singh's "Dhurandhar" has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film in the United States, with a gross of $21 million. The Aditya Dhar directorial has surpassed the previous record held by "Baahubali 2: The Conclusion," which earned $20.7 million in North America in 2017.
The film's success in North America has propelled it past several other blockbusters, including "Kalki 2898 AD" ($18.5 million), "Pathaan" ($17.5 million), "Jawan" ($15.6 million), "RRR" ($15.3 million), "Pushpa 2" ($15.3 million), "Animal" ($14 million), and "Dangal" ($12.4 million).
"Dhurandhar" has been a box office success since its release approximately six weeks ago. The film has earned over ₹800 crore net (almost ₹1000 crore gross) in India, becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film in the country. Despite not being released or facing a shadow ban in the Middle East, its overseas collection has reached an impressive $32 million, largely due to its performance in North America.
Globally, "Dhurandhar" has grossed ₹1296 crore (US$150 million), making it the fourth-highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The film is also the highest-grossing Indian film in Australia. As of January 13, 2026, "Dhurandhar" has grossed ₹1,018.89 crore (US$120 million) domestically and ₹284.09 crore (US$34 million) overseas.
"Dhurandhar" is the first and only Hindi film to have crossed the $20 million mark in the USA/Canada markets. It is almost 14% higher than "Pathaan," which ranks at #2 with lifetime earnings of $17.49 million. While "Dhurandhar" is the second Indian film to cross the $20 million mark in North America, "Baahubali 2" remains at the top spot with $22 million.
The Aditya Dhar film stars Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan in key roles, along with Rakesh Bedi and Sara Arjun. The film has received praise from critics and fans alike.
The film is a fictional narrative inspired by true incidents, following Hamza (Ranveer Singh), an Indian agent who embeds himself within Karachi's mafia network to dismantle terror operations. Some critics have noted the film's long runtime of 214 minutes and have criticized it for mixing fact and fiction, with some calling it propaganda. However, others have praised the film's gripping spy action thriller narrative, grounded action scenes, and the performances of the cast, particularly Ranveer Singh and Akshaye Khanna.
"Dhurandhar" was released on December 5, 2025, and received an A (adults only) certificate from the CBFC for strong violence. A sequel is scheduled to be released on March 19, 2026.
