Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was hospitalized in Fortis Hospital, Mohali, on Friday, September 5, 2025, after his health deteriorated over the previous two days. The 51-year-old Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had been experiencing health issues, with some reports indicating stomach problems, viral fever, and digestion-related issues. Other reports suggest that he was suffering from variations in his blood pressure.

Mann had been receiving treatment at his official residence, but doctors advised immediate hospitalization after his condition showed no signs of improvement. He has been admitted to the isolation ICU for further treatment and observation. His wife, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur Mann, accompanied him to the hospital.

The Chief Minister's illness prompted the cancellation of a cabinet meeting scheduled for Friday. The meeting was considered significant as it was expected to address the ongoing relief and rescue operations in Punjab, which has been severely affected by floods. The floods, described as the worst since 1988, have claimed at least 43 lives and affected nearly 1,700 villages across 23 districts, impacting over 3.8 lakh residents. Over four lakh acres of agricultural land in the state have been submerged.

Prior to his hospitalization, Mann was unable to accompany AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on a visit to the flood-affected areas on Thursday. Kejriwal had visited Mann at his official residence on Thursday to check on his health. Kejriwal told reporters that Mann's illness stemmed from overwork in the flood-affected areas without adequate rest or meals. He said he requested Mann to rest for two days, but Mann's only concern was providing relief to the people of Punjab.

Despite the Chief Minister's illness, relief measures are continuing in the flood-affected areas. Punjab Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian has urged the Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for immediate relief and a massive financial package to address the devastating impact of the floods and to support affected farmers.
