Amrita Rao, known for her roles in films like "Vivah" and "Main Hoon Na," recently shared some unsettling experiences she faced after the success of the 2006 film "Vivah". In a conversation with Ranveer Allahbadia, she revealed the bizarre fan encounters and emotional challenges she faced during that period.
The actress recounted receiving numerous marriage proposals, particularly from Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). She described how these proposals often included family photos with the prospective groom posing with their car and dog, accompanied by the request "mujhse shaadi karlo" (please marry me). Rao admitted she found the sheer volume and nature of these proposals quite amusing.
However, the attention wasn't always lighthearted. Rao revealed that some admirers crossed the line, with one fan even writing a letter in blood. "Once, I received a letter written in blood, and that was very scary," she said. She also mentioned an incident where a man would constantly loiter near the telephone booth outside her house, causing concern for her family. "It got a little much," Rao recalled.
Beyond the unsettling fan behavior, Rao also faced creative and emotional struggles. Despite the success of "Vivah" and the audience's adoration, she felt creatively stifled. She expressed frustration with the types of roles she was being offered, noting that they often came with conditions she wasn't comfortable with. "The offers were big but came with conditions like, 'There's a kissing scene,' and I would think, 'Why do I only get offers with a glitch?'" she said.
This period of professional frustration and unwanted attention led Rao to withdraw from the industry's social scene. She stopped attending parties and award shows, preferring to focus on her work and return home. "I was in a lonely space," Rao confessed.
Amidst this turbulent phase, Rao found stability and love when she met RJ Anmol. They met during an interview for his radio show, which sparked their love story. After dating for seven years, the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in 2016 and welcomed their son, Veer, in 2020.
After a brief hiatus, Amrita Rao is set to make a comeback in "Jolly LLB 3," reprising her role as Sandhya.
