Mumbai, November 17, 2025 – Former Congress MP Husain Dalwai has sparked a significant political controversy by linking the recent Delhi blast to "injustice" in Kashmir. The blast, which occurred on November 10 at the Red Fort, resulted in 13 fatalities and over 20 injuries. Dalwai's remarks have drawn sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who have accused him of being a "spin doctor for terror".
Dalwai's statement echoes similar sentiments expressed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, who also suggested a connection between the Delhi blast and the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Dalwai stated that the blast "appears to be an act carried out by terrorists" and emphasized the need for the government to introspect and initiate dialogue to address underlying grievances. He argued that perceived injustices in Kashmir could be driving some youth to "resist and protest".
The former MP also questioned the timing of the blast, linking it to the election cycle. "Why do bomb blasts happen repeatedly during elections? This needs investigation," he stated. Furthermore, Dalwai called for an investigation into the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), questioning their commitment to non-violence and suggesting that certain factions within the organization might support terrorism. "The RSS volunteers carry sticks on their shoulders, which shows their belief in violence and not in Mahatma Gandhi's ideology," he added.
The BJP has reacted strongly to Dalwai's comments. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala labeled Dalwai a "spin doctor for terror," accusing him of legitimizing and justifying terror, linking it to injustice, and invoking the RSS while refusing to condemn Islamic Jihad. Poonawala went on to dub the Congress the "Muslim League Maowadi Congress (MMC)". Amit Malviya, in charge of BJP's National Information and Technology department, echoed this sentiment, stating that "MMC (Muslim League Mao Congress) justifies Red Fort blast". Pradeep Bhandari, another BJP spokesperson, accused Rahul Gandhi's Congress of "JUSTIFYING & DEFENDING Red Fort Blast terrorists".
Dalwai also voiced his opposition to the state policy of using bulldozers to demolish the homes of accused individuals, a practice often seen in Uttar Pradesh. "I oppose bulldozer politics. Destroying homes due to one person's crime is wrong," he asserted. Additionally, Dalwai supported a probe into former Home Minister P. Chidambaram's theory that the blast was an "internal issue involving internal terrorism,” praising Chidambaram as "very knowledgeable and educated".
The controversy surrounding Dalwai's remarks highlights the deeply divisive political climate in India and the sensitivity surrounding issues related to Kashmir and terrorism.
