In the wake of a devastating mosque bombing in Islamabad, India has strongly condemned the attack and rejected what it describes as "baseless and unfounded allegations" from Pakistani leadership. The bombing, which occurred on Friday, February 6, 2026, at a mosque in the Tarlai area on the outskirts of Islamabad, resulted in at least 15 fatalities and numerous injuries.

According to reports, the explosion occurred when a suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives at the mosque's entrance after being prevented from entering. Emergency services were swiftly deployed, with an emergency declared at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and other nearby hospitals to treat the injured.

In response to the attack, Pakistani officials have alluded to Indian involvement, prompting a strong rebuttal from New Delhi. An MEA spokesperson stated that India "unequivocally rejects the baseless and unfounded allegations being made by an obviously delirious Pakistani leadership". The spokesperson further added that Pakistan is using "a predictable tactic...to concoct false narratives against India in order to deflect the attention of its own public from the ongoing military-inspired constitutional subversion and power grab unfolding within the country". The MEA insisted that the international community is aware of the reality and will not be misled by Pakistan's diversionary ploys.

This is not the first time that India has dismissed such claims. Following a terror attack in Islamabad and Wana in November 2025, India similarly rejected Pakistan's allegations, with the MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal describing them as "baseless and unfounded".

The recent bombing took place amidst heightened security concerns in Islamabad, where several high-profile events were being hosted. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. However, the incident follows a series of attacks by the outlawed Baloch Liberation Army in Pakistan's Balochistan province.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the bombing.

The relationship between India and Pakistan remains strained, with frequent accusations and counter-accusations. India has urged Pakistan to focus on its internal issues, including the "long-standing demands of its people in the region".
